Eleven Architects Work Hand-in-Hand with Ronald McDonald House Charities Hamburg-Altona, Germany | Zaha Hadid Architects

When the Ronald McDonald House charities decided to build apartments for the families of ill children on the site of the Altona Children’s hospital, they collaborate with 11 architect firms in order to create unique beautiful and comfortable residences. The international architecture firms participating in the project are: Appia Contract, Barcode Architects, Brandherm + Krumrey, EMBAIXADA, Estudio.Entresitio, GRAFT Hollein & Partner, Low Architecten, Manuelle Gautrand, Raiserlopes, Sara Spire and Zaha Hadid Architects.
The firms involved in the project approached the 25 square meter living units using their own unique themes to actualize their vision of the space. One Unit that stands out among the architects involved is apartment 5 by Zaha Hadid Architects. They have implemented dynamic design features to accommodate the needs of the families in the form of two “capsules”.  Creating a horizon between the wood in the bottom half and the white in the top half of the unit allows for a both dynamic and luminous living and playing environment.
