Canada’s Glacier Skywalk is unveiled

nnovative architecture can often be a catalyst for increased visitor numbers to a certain reason, but designers of the Glacier Skywalk were faced with a conundrum: how to make something visually appealing while minimising the environmental impact of the development? To be found in Jasper National Park overlooking Sunwapta Canyon in the Canadian Rockies, the forthcoming attraction is currently being developed on the site of the disappointing Tangle Ridge Viewpoint. The location has an exceptional view over the surrounding region but the Tangle Ridge’s unattractive layout and dated design means it fails to attract a significant number of visitors. The updated and distinctive Glacier Skywalk is expected to see traffic to the area increase by 219 per cent when it opens in May 2014.
