Augmented Structures and Acoustic Formations | Alper Derinboğaz, Kerim Karaoğlu, Refik Anadol

Fading throughout the design world, parametric features have made its way into the world of acoustics. This project titled “Augmented Structures: Acoustic Formations” is an installation designed by Alper Derinboğaz with the help of Kerim Karaoğlu for sound design and new media art by Refik Anadol.

Through parametric architecture and audiovisual techniques, this augmented structure experiments with merging logic and media into the form of architecture. This structure is not only meant as a beautiful and dominant piece of artwork, but as urban design feature for the people visiting the Galatasaray side of Yapı Kredi Cultural Centre in Istanbul, Turkey.

During the night a visual performance is projected on structure. The structure responds using synchronized movements to transform the projected image, and in turn the projections influence the transformation of the structure. Combining these different medias and projecting them onto this façade allows for each mediums state to be altered.

The integrated approach transforms sound and architecture into a living canvas and presents the viewer with a unique and layered media experience.
