Aedas has unveiled the plans for Chongqing Xinhua Bookstore Group Jiefangbei Book City Mixed-use Project. The project is a dynamic complex that encompasses a sky cultural plaza, retails, apartments, offices and a boutique hotel in the Jiefangbei Central Business District, the heart of downtown Chongqing. The central building in the project appears to unfold through stepped terraces, “implying the spirit of wisdom and knowledge.” These stepped terraces furthermore reflect the landscape of Chongqing, which is called the “Mountain City.” Aedas draws design inspiration from an ancient Chinese prose ‘Knowledge brings wealth’ to integrate book with the cultural elements of Chongqing, creating an interactive commercial complex with Xinhua Bookstore sitting at the core of the podium.
Since 2005, Aedas designed many major Chongqing’s mixed-commercial developments, including Starlight Place in Nanping district which was completed in 2012, and Sincere Financial Center in Jiafangbei completed in 2015. Aedas’ world-class solutions in response to the local social and cultural needs have brought to them huge successes in establishing Chongqing’s landmarks as well as a large portfolio of forthcoming projects.
“Our work is in demand as our understanding of local markets and culture work ensures our designs are relevant and responsible. We also found that developers are seeking new and more flexible development products and Aedas’ designers enjoy working hard to find innovative and sustainable solutions to this new, sophisticated and more responsible market,” shared Aedas’ Chairman Keith Griffiths.
Aedas ‘global and local’ design model reinforces its position in Chongqing and West China. It sees the necessity to understand the unique market, culture and requirements of each China’s cities and therefore has established offices in Chengdu for West China, Shanghai for East China with the Beijing office serving the North and Hong Kong serving the South. This network of offices in China shares all design and business development information whilst each office has its own local work and knowledge, facilitating to deliver unique design solutions and shape the architecture future for Chongqing and West China.
