3XN Architects have revealed their design for La Tour residential tower in Aarhus, Denmark. According to 3XN the vision for La Tour has been to create a building that based on its location, form and quality; will contribute to the surrounding neighborhood on many levels and in a positive way.
Particular attention has been paid to the building scale, so that it is both distinctive and visible in the city, but also embraces the local environment in one fluid motion. La Tour will forge an identity in the urban context. Visible in the distance from many parts of the city, the building will become a part of the city skyline, serving as a point of orientation.
Financially viable homes of a high architectural quality
The desire for the building is to provide low cost, high quality housing suitable for students. This has required the design to be economically viable, meeting the rigorous needs of students, and providing quality accommodation at a low cost. Additional value is brought to the building through its unique expression and identity which stand out on the city skyline of Aarhus.
An expressive and value added form
The distinctive shape uses terracing to transition from the large flat volumes in the local area to the urban high rise typology. The building design takes particular care to respect the historical water tower, ensuring it does not disappear behind the new tower – but instead retains its character as a fixed point of reference, remaining a worthy partner in the local area’s skyline.
Thus the project embraces the city and the neighborhood’s special character, while simultaneously giving citizens of Aarhus a unique opportunity to live in functional apartments showcasing stunning views over the City of Aarhus
